Caring for Your Flowers
-
Always make sure your vase is clean
A clean vase is the first step to longer-lasting blooms. Even the smallest traces of bacteria or residue can cause flowers to fade quickly. Wash your vase thoroughly with warm, soapy water, rinse it well, and dry before adding fresh water.
-
Fill two-thirds with clean cold water and add flower food
Flower food contains nutrients and antibacterial agents that help keep the water fresh and your flowers hydrated. Always use the sachet provided and mix it thoroughly. Cold or room-temperature water is best—never hot, as this can damage stems. Top tip: Don’t overfill the vase as this can cause stems to rot prematurely.
-
Remove foliage below the waterline
Leaves left in the water will decay quickly, creating bacteria that block the stems’ ability to drink. Gently remove any foliage that would sit below the waterline before arranging your flowers.
-
Trim 2–3 cm from the bottom at a sharp angle
Cutting at an angle increases the surface area for water absorption. Use clean, sharp scissors or secateurs and avoid crushing the ends. Re-trim every few days to keep stems fresh and open.
-
Change the water frequently
Fresh, clean water is the secret to long-lasting blooms. Change it every two days, rinse your vase, and reapply flower food if available.
-
Choose the right vase
Pick a vase that’s about half the height of the flowers for good proportion. Tall stems like lilies, delphiniums or gladioli suit slender cylinders, while mixed
hand-tied bouquets often look best in wider, rounded vases.
-
Give them the best conditions
Keep flowers in a cooler spot, away from draughts and heat sources such as radiators or fires, and out of direct sunlight. Top tip: Keep flowers away from the fruit bowl, especially apples—ripening fruit releases ethylene gas which speeds up ageing.
-
Last but not least—enjoy
Appreciate your flowers each day and remove any fading stems as new buds open.

Caring for your orchid plants
Overwatering is the most common way to kill the orchids. Stand the orchid plants on an east or west facing window where they will receive sunlight. They need day light not a dark room. In the summer too much light can scorch the leaves. They appreciate a humid atmosphere so spray the leaves (not flower) every 3 days. Water your orchid with 2 egg cups of water once a week.
Summer Flower Care Guide & Disclaimer
Summer flowers are selected for their seasonal beauty and delicate charm. However due to their delicate nature and warmer temperatures, summer flowers naturally have a shorter vase life, therefore they may only last up to 5 days or less.
Viburnum
The flowering head of a Viburnum Pom Pom naturally bends down, this is completely natural for this variety of flower. The thin stem can struggle to support the heavy flower head. Please don’t think its dying.
